Testimonials
Ryan Rafferty“In high school, I was very active in several different sports and was in good shape. After school, when I got a job, got married and had kids my schedule became real busy and I pushed aside all fitness related activities. I gained more than 50 lbs of my ideal weight and was in horrible shape. I met Shane one year ago and started CrossFit. I liked the idea of getting back in shape but what I discovered most was that I lost my competitive spirit. CrossFit has brought that back! I have not only lost all the weight I’ve gained but, I can truly say at age 36, I am in the best shape of my life.” |
Dana King“As a mother of 5 children, all under the age of 9, I stay busy running my kids around and donít have that much time for myself. I ran and did some group classes during down time but couldnít seem to lose that last 10-15 lbs I gained during pregnancy. I discovered CrossFit through a friend and found out I could get in great shape with 20 minute workouts. I feel great now knowing I can get in and out without taking time away from my family. I am in better shape both physically and mentally now than I was before I had kids. If I can make the time anyone can.” |
Dan Levine“So fifty years old was going to hit me hard. Getting older never really bothered me but for some reason this milestone birthday was creeping up and I was starting to pay attention to my age. Even though I still think that I am a teenager (and behave like one if you ask my wife), my body was falling apart – I have suffered from chronic lower back pain, sore knees, and a variety of other aches and pains. I did the Chiropractor thing a couple of times. It always helped, kind of. Many visits to the Sports Medicine specialists, including the famous James Andrews clinic, almost always resulted in some sort of Dr. smirk and a comment about getting older. After one visit, including X-rays, MRIs, and all kinds of flexibility and strength tests the Dr. brought me in for my diagnoses. He hands me my medical history form that I filled out when I got there and says there’s your problem. The bastard had circled my Date of Birth! One of my passions outside of what I do for work is that I get to play ice hockey twice a week with a bunch of great guys. But with my deteriorating body parts I was getting weaker and slower and just couldn’t keep up. I was really close to quitting as much from the pain as the disappointment of my teammates because I was more of a burden then a help on the ice. Meanwhile my wife, an avid tennis player, had been working out with a personal trainer and hearing all this from me during pillow talk (not a romantic, huh), she talked me into trying it. The changes in her body were impressive so I couldn’t argue with the success. She backed it up with a Christmas present of 12 sessions with Shane at Ignite Fitness. Shane had just opened a new gym when I walked in. Well I about puked during the first work out but made it. I quickly felt like I was accomplishing something. I was learning proper technique for lifting, having modest successes in improved strength, and recalling some of my athleticism. Shane also work with me on my diet and once I committed to the changes the pounds started falling off. Well about the time I finished my first 12 sessions Shane got Certified as a CrossFit Trainer. I held out with another 12 sessions before starting CrossFit but once I did I was hooked and can’t stop. I quickly found that above and beyond the WODs exercises the competitive/social aspect of a CrossFit WOD really resonated with me. The first time you aren’t the last one finished, then you start RX-ing WODs, then you start targetting the guys ahead of you. All of those little incremental successes are a huge part of how CrossFit works. So now at 50, I am probably in the best physical condition of my life. My 20 plus years of back pain, GONE. My chronic knee problems, GONE. I am playing hockey as well as I have in years perhaps decades. Not that I was ever that skilled, but effort and endurance and the ability to put yourself in the right spot goes a long way skating for 90 minutes. The guys have noticed too, which means as much to me as how I feel. So that’s my CrossFit testimonial. I find myself evangelizing the benefits of CrossFit and the Paleo Diet just about everywhere I go.” |
